A CARE home that was placed in special measures last year has been given a ‘requires improvement’ rating after its most recent inspection.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited Ainsworth Nursing Home, in Knowsley Road and found that some progress had been made to previous breaches in regulations.

Inspectors found that staff on the dementia unit were under pressure to meet people’s needs and were concerned there were no checks in place on whether staff could safely administer medicine. As a result the nursing home was rated ‘inadequate’ and placed in special measures meaning that another inspection would have to take place in six months.’

The home can care for up to 37 people and, at the time of December’s inspection 20 people were living there. This time around inspectors noted that they received lots of positive comments from people about their experiences and the care and support they received and staff were described as “compassionate, caring and respectful towards people”.

The report said: “The management and administration of old people’s medicines was safe and demonstrated people received their medicines as prescribed.” It added that improvements had been made to ensure staff were aware of their responsibilities in protecting people from abuse and that staff demonstrated their understanding of the procedures and confirmed they had completed training. It was also noted that social and recreational opportunities were provided to enable people to maintain their independence and encourage their involvement and improvements were being made to accommodation and facilities. Although the final rating was “requires improvement”, areas for caring, responsive and safety were given “good” ratings.
