NEARLY 40 worthy organisations have been given a boost to their coffers — courtesy of Bury Lions.

For around £4,600 raised following June’s Bury Lions Carnival has been distributed to a host of local charities and groups.

The presentation evening was held at Bury Town Hall included Bury’s mayor and mayoress, Councillor John and Mrs Brenda Byrne and Miss Bury, Alix Drennan.

Bury Lions Carnival chairman Scott Richardson thanked sponsors DTE, who have supported the event for a number of years, and UKCostumes4U.com who have also given their backing to other Lions projects.

He said: “We would also like to thank Bury Council and the police, but most of all, the people of our great town of Bury. Without the support of you all, we wouldn’t be able to raise money for needy causes.”

Recipients who shared in the proceeds were: Age Concern Bury, Acapeelers Choir, Bolton Community Transport & Furniture, Bolton Mountain Rescue Team, British Heart Foundation, Bury Cancer Support Centre, Bury & District Scouts, Bury FC Cheerleaders, Bury FC Disabled Supporters Club, Bury FC Juniors, Bury Pipeline Talking Newspaper for the Blind, Bury & Radcliffe Sea Cadets, Bury Shopmobility, Bury Transport Museum, Cameron House Care Home Social Fund and, Cancer Research UK.

Also included were: Derian House Children’s Hospice, Dobcross Youth Band, Friends of Home-Start Bury, The Fusiliers Association (Lancashire) Band & Corps of Drums, The Jonathan Garrity Fights Back Cancer Foundation (Christie Hospital), Greater Manchester Police Benevolent Fund, Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, Help for Heroes, Immigration Advisory Service, Lisa Jayne’s Dance Academy, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Mayor’s Charity Fund. Those who also benefited were: Medequip4Kids, Mosses Community Centre, Rebuild, Roch Valley Radio, Rossendale & Pendle Mountain Rescue Team, Seedfield Scouts, St John Ambulance, Sunnybank Primary School Parents’ Association, Trewan Sands Children’s Trust, Josh Whittaker (Scouts Jamboree 2011 Sweden), & Woolfold Morris Troupe. Certificates of thanks and appreciation were presented to members of the public who volunteered with marshalling duties during this year’s carnival.
