A MAN died on Sunday after being struck by a steam train on the East Lancashire Railway line.
Passengers travelling on the 2.50pm Bury to Rawtenstall service were ordered by police to stay on the carriages for two hours after the man's body was discovered between Bury and Summerseat.
The man, who has not yet been identified, had suffered multiple injuries.
A member of the public who was on the train said: "It was about a mile along the line from the Bury Station when the man's body was found on the line.
"From what I could see, he had obviously been hit by a train.
"The police were treating it as a crime scene and we were told to remain on the train."
