IT’S a big bite of success for Delicious independent sandwich bar.

For the business, run by Wendy Wray, is the only one in Bury and throughout Greater Manchester to scoop two “excellence” accolades under the Greater Manchester Healthier Catering Award programme.

The aim of the initiative is to recognise those catering businesses that have a national food hygiene score of three or more and have demonstrated a commit-ment to reducing the level of saturated fat, sugar and salt in food and drinks sold.

It encourages caterers and chefs to offer their customer healthier choices when they eat in a restaurant, cafe or public or get a take-away.

Now, Delicious can boast two “excellence” awards which certify that the business has a food hygiene rating of five, is committed to offering a rage of healthy food and drinks, actively promotes these to customers and also offers a portion of fruit and vegetables.

The company’s accolades embrace the Delicious sandwich bar in Silver Street and the Delicious at the Fusilier cafe at the nearby Fusilier Museum in Moss Street. And it’s the only catering business in Greater Manchester to secure two such awards.

Wendy said: “We offer a lot of low fat products and everything is freshly made. It’s all about giving people a choice. We don’t ply people with fat on anything. All drinks are low sugar and we have still and flavoured water and for salads we offer low fat mayonnaise.”

The “excellence” accol-ades were awarded to Delicious after separate inspections at both premises.

Wendy originally opened Delicious in Silver Street in May, 2010. Later, she was approached by the Fusilier Museum and asked to take over all the catering in its 60-seater cafe as well as regimental dinners, the bar and other catering-related functions.

Delicious, which has a 10-strong staff, prides itself in providing high class made-to-order sandwiches, along with salads, home-made soups, daily specials and home-made cakes. The business is also heavily involved in corporate and special occasion catering.

Earlier this year, Delicious lifted the “customer excellence” title at the coveted Bolton and Bury Business Awards, organised by the Bolton News and Bury Times Group.
