A CARE home in Prestwich has been given a stamp of approval from inspectors who marked it as 'good' overall.

Heathlands Village, in Heathlands Drive, received a 'good' mark for four areas of the inspection, and one 'outstanding' under 'responsive' from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after the unannounced inspection visit, which took place on January 18, 19, 28 and February 1 earlier this year.

The Heathlands Village, run by Federation of Jewish Services (The Fed), provides a wide range of care services for up to 214 older people from both the Jewish and non–Jewish community, with 154 people using the service at the time of the visit.

Under CQC's new programme of inspections, all of England's adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

Inspectors found no breaches in the regulations that they reviewed.

The report said: "Recruitment procedures were sufficiently robust to protect people from the risk of unsuitable staff and there were adequate numbers of staff to support people safely and effectively.

"People who used the service and relatives said it's like a five star hotel.

"The registered manager had a good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act.

"We saw frequent and friendly exchanges between staff and people who used the service and the atmosphere was calm and relaxed."

It also added that people nearing the end of their life received "compassionate and supportive care".

The report concluded with: "The service actively sought and acted on the views and opinions of people who used the service, relatives and staff. The service had developed a clear and visible code of practice that supported a positive culture and value base, which was expected to be followed by all people connected with Heathlands Village.

"There was a strong emphasis on continually striving to improve and working in partnership with others, for example, members of the community, music therapy and the local university."

Mark Cunningham, chief operating officer at The Fed, the charity which runs Heathlands Village said: "On comparison with other care homes we have reason to be really proud.

"Although we were rated as 'good' overall we achieved a rating of 'outstanding' for our responsiveness to people's needs.

"The inspectors found that we respond to people's individual needs and preferences, finding creative ways to enable people to live as full a life as possible.

"Taking everything into account, I'm very happy with how we did, though that won't stop us aiming for an overall 'outstanding' rating at our next inspection in 2018."
