A Prestwich photography studio has come up with a novel way to help pets celebrate their birthdays.

Through the Looking Glass Studios has put its own twist on the trend for holding a 'cake smash' photoshoot for a baby's first birthday — the business is offering the same experience but for pampered pooches.

Dogs and their owners can visit the Bury New Road studio for a fun play session complete with party hats, decoration and their own bespoke dog-friendly birthday cake.

Caroline Olsen, the company director of Through the Looking Glass Studios, said: "Pets are a huge part of the family and furry photoshoots are amongst our favourites. We have been shooting baby cake smashes since we opened, and after seeing the incredible bond between pets and their owners we thought that it was only fair that four legged friends also had some of the fun.”

The antics of the pets tucking in to the tasty treat is captured on camera by the team, with often hilarious results, giving owners a lasting memento of the landmark occasion.

The cakes include healthy treats like carrots, peanut butter and apples and are prepared by Luke Millington of Stay N Play Doggy Day Care, based in Phoenix Way, Radcliffe.

The team allow plenty of time to ease the pets into the studio environment, allowing them to explore and sniff around. Tricky nooks and crannies are hidden, and a selection of toys and treats are on hand and cuddles.

Through the Looking Glass Studios was launched in August 2016 to offer a studio experience with a difference.

In addition to classic black and white shots, the studio specialises in using different backgrounds to provide vibrant pops of colour, which is its trademark.

Ms Olsen said: "They say never work with children or animals, but we do both and go one step further and throw food in to the mix! As a portrait photography studio, it’s our aim is to capture those precious moments, regardless of the chaos behind the scenes.

“No two doggy cake smash shoots are the same and we think we have as much fun as the dogs themselves."
