A FORMER soldier celebrated his 100th birthday by throwing a party for fellow tenants at a Radcliffe extra care scheme.
James McDermott, who has one daughter, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, marked his centenary with a celebration at the Red Bank apartments on May 11.
James, who was born in Hartlepool and moved to Radcliffe 20 years ago, said: "It was a way of showing how I feel about the other tenants and staff.
"I'm happy to live amongst ordinary people like myself and the staff know me so well, they care about me and the feeling is mutual."
