A TOWN centre road closed since July last year will re-open permanently on Friday, it has been confirmed.
United Utilities have been carrying out major sewer improvement works in Church Street West, Radcliffe, for almost a year, but the road will now re-open by the end of tomorrow.
The £1.7 million project was scheduled to finish by the end of March, but has been severely delayed due to obstructions underneath the road and an unstable river embankment.
United Utilities had promised Church Street West would be opened for Saturday – whether temporarily or permanently – in order to accommodate the Radcliffe Carnival parade.
Frustrated traders whose businesses have suffered because of the ongoing town centre gridlock this week issued a call for more compensation to be handed out.
