A YOUNG bricklayer from Radcliffe has cemented his career in the construction industry after graduating from an apprenticeship scheme.

Jack Veevers, aged 20, has secured a position at bricklaying firm Paul Fish Brickwork, after working as an apprentice with Mulbury Homes since July 2013.

Jack, who also has an interview at Salford City College to study for an NVQ level 2 in trowel occupations, said: “I’m settling into life on site really well so far. I like getting stuck in so I enjoy that the job is very hands on.

“I’ve been learning the diverse roles of the job, such as measuring and setting up on site, making cement mixes as well as general block work and I can’t wait to develop my skills further.”

Kevin Morris, construction manager at Mulbury Homes, said: “The widespread skills shortage in the construction industry is a really hot topic at the moment, and paired with the need for Britain to get building more homes, it’s really important for firms to invest in the future of housebuilding by helping to get more young people into the industry.”
