DRIVERS experienced major disruption in Little Lever this morning after a road was closed due to a large fire.

Stopes Road was closed in both directions, between the Hayward Avenue junction and Bolton Road, while fire crews from Farnworth and Bolton Central attended the incident.

A fire service spokesman said: "We were called to Stopes Road at 6am, and two fire engines attended the incident. The fire involved an out building and a large quantity of timber.

"We called in the police to assist us with the traffic management situation."

Buses going towards both Bolton and Bury were diverted onto alternative routes.

The road reopened at about 8.10am but delays were still expected.
