OLYMPIAN James Guy has topped off a week to remember by having a shark named after him.

As James proved to be deadly in the pool, staff at Sea Life Manchester thought it fitting to name one of their biggest fish after the Olympic hero.

The 20-year-old from Bury, helped secure silver for the men's 4x200m freestyle relay team last Wednesday.

To mark the victory the Brownbranded Bamboo Shark at the centre had been renamed James Guy.

Dean Feasby, marketing manager at SEA LIFE Manchester commented: "It's brilliant to hear that Team GB have won another medal in the Rio Olympics and we wanted to show our support to the local Olympian from Bury by naming our Bamboo Shark after him.

"With the freestyle relay taking place on Tuesday night, we thought the nocturnal Brownbanded Bamboo Shark would be the perfect creature to name. We're sure he'll soon be in the limelight with visitors wanting to see our very own James Guy."

James, who was born in Radcliffe, swam the anchor leg of the race in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday following swims from Stephen Milne, Dan Wallace and Duncan Scott.

The medal helped James put his double disappointment from earlier in the week behind him.

He had finished sixth in the 400m freestyle and fourth in the 200m.
