A WOMAN was cut out of her car after colliding with a tree in Radcliffe.

The 44-year-old suffered serious leg injuries after her blue Ford Fiesta collided with a tree in Radcliffe Moor Road, Bradley Fold, at around 9pm yesterday.

Fire crews from Bury, Bolton and Leigh, were called to the incident after the woman became trapped in the car outside Bradley Fold Garden Centre.

Steve Wilcock, watch manager at Bury Fire Station, said: “The car had heavily impacted the tree and had to be completely taken apart to get the woman out.

“We had to cut the car into pieces and it was completely destroyed.

“We removed the roof and the doors because the tree crushed it.

“The whole road was a sea of blue lights with police, paramedics and 15 firemen working together for an hour and a half.”

A resident of Newhall Avenue, who wished not to be named, said: "I was out walking my dog and chatting to someone when we heard bang, bang, bang and walked down the road to see what had happened.

"There were no other cars on the road at the time and there were no skid marks across the road.

"The car must have spun around, mounted the curb, hit the tree and uprooted it.

"The road was closed until 12.30am and it was full of emergency service cars and four fire engines.

"There have been a few crashes on the road before but not for a while. It used to be a 40mph road but its now a 30mph road.

"There was an incident where two cars collided and one came crashing into our neighbours garden. That was in the daytime and the children had just gone inside minutes before it happened.

"It was lucky in this case that there were no other cars on the road so I hope the driver makes a full recovery."

Adam Stanley, chief salesman at Radmoor Car Sales, which is situated across the road from the where the crash took place, said: "The road is very long with with bends from both sides as you approach the junction.

"With our office being positioned where it is, we regularly see cars and other vehicles having complications on the road.

"I have lived in the area for a few years and it has always been a problem area."

A police spokesman added: “We were called at 9.05pm to Radcliffe Moor Road, in Radcliffe, to reports of a collision involving a blue Ford Fiesta and a tree.

“A 44-year-old woman was trapped inside the car and fire service attended to cut her out.

“She suffered serious leg injuries, which are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.”

The woman was taken to Salford Royal Hospital to be treated for her injuries.
