TWO sisters have raised more than £2,500 in memory of their mother, who would have been 50 this summer.

Rachael Barrett, of Bury Road, Tottington, and Jessica Healey, of Beechwood Avenue, Ramsbottom, teamed up with Tottington United Football Club to host the event as part of the club's annual fundraiser in memory of past members.

The final total of £2,518 raised at the event will be split between the club and the two charities that supported Amanda Healey, who lived in Heath Avenue, Summerseat, in her fight against lung cancer which she lost at the age of 48 in January 2014.

The daytime events saw three charity football matches take place at the Laurel Street club, with a team put together by the sisters winning 5-2 against Tottington United’s third XI.

The fundraising day moved on to Tottington Conservative Club on Royds Street, with a raffle and auction boosting the final total, which will be split between Tottington United Football Club, Macmillan Cancer Support and Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Rachael said: "The day started with torrential downpours so it was really humbling to see so many people turn out and watch, despite the rain.

“We’re thrilled with the amount raised and can’t thank everyone enough for donating towards our total.

“We’d also like to thank everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and auction as we couldn’t have done this without them.

“We think mum would’ve been really happy to know so many of her friends and family came together to celebrate what would’ve been a milestone birthday for her.

“Both charities were a huge support to us during an unbelievably tough few months and we hope the money raised will go a long way to help other families in the same situation.”
