THE candidates for this month’s Tottington by-election have been announced.

The seat was vacated after former councillor Simon Carter resigned ahead of a court case where he was sentenced for making indecent images of children.

Carter, aged 53, was ordered to serve a three-year community order by a judge at Bolton Crown Court.

The candidates for the by-election on October 22 are:

David Foss (Liberal Democrats), Martin Hayes (Labour), Ian Henderson (UKIP), Greg Keeley (Conservative), and John Southworth (Green).

Polling booths will be open on election day from 7am to 10pm. Anyone who has not registered for postal voting, but would like a postal vote, should call 0161 253 5252. Applications must be returned by October 7.
