A PRIMARY school which once required improvement is celebrating after receiving a glowing Ofsted report.

Emmanuel Holcombe CE School in Holcombe has now been judged to be ‘good with outstanding features’ by inspectors who praised the ‘headteacher’s strong and effective leadership’.

The behaviour of pupils at school and the early years provision was described as outstanding.

Inspectors reported: “The headteacher has demonstrated a determined resolve to rapidly drive improvements. Her inspirational leadership and clear sense of purpose has developed an effective staff team.

“Ably supported by the deputy headteacher and committed governors, the headteacher has established a culture where high expectations of all aspects of the school’s work is the norm. The school is well placed to continue to improve.”

Teaching is described as good with standards in some cases being outstanding. Learning is said to be ‘engaging and fun’.

Standards are said to be rising with all all groups of pupils, including disadvantaged pupils, making good progress — with staff having ‘high expectations of what pupils can achieve’.

The report stated: “Pupils are extremely polite and friendly towards adults and each other. Standards of behaviour and exemplary. This is happy school where pupils are safe and well cared for.”

It adds: “Parents have a high regard for the way staff care for their children and help them make progress.”

Sue Wardle, who was appointed as headteacher in April 2016, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the outcome of our Ofsted Inspection.

“The report accurately reflects the dedication and hard work of the whole team and the progress that has been made since the last Inspection.

“We are very proud of our school and our wonderful pupils.”

Elaine Allum , Chairman of Governors, said: “I am immensely proud of this achievement which is due to the incredibly hard work that the whole staff team and governor.

“Staff and governors know the school, and pupils, very well and we have a clear plan for further improvement.

“We are always striving to deliver the best possible education to the children and they are at the heart of everything we do.”
