A FASHION show organised by two Tottington women has raised more than £1,600 to help beat cancer.

The sold out event organised by Margaret Parker and Frances Branton, held at St Anne's church hall, Tottington on October 28, was attended by 106 women, and raised £1,641 from sales of ladies fashion provided by Lucy Cobb boutique, Uppermill.

The event also included an afternoon tea and a raffle, and a cheque for the money raised was later presented to Sandra Gregory from Cancer Research UK by Ms Parker and Ms Branton.

Ms Parker said: "My motivation to hold an event was quite simply prompted by the many people I know, who despite being given the worst prognosis possible, manage to remain positive.

"Also, I have lost relatives and dear friends to cancer but, thankfully, more recently I have friends who are surviving it.

"The fact that Frances had held previous successful events and had an excellent framework in place, which she very kindly shared, was also fantastic.

"She also had a great support team so the stars were aligned as they say for a wonderfully successful event.

"The amount we raised was phenomenal and I was delighted."

Sian Nixon from Tottington, who helped run the event, said: "I'm delighted, because it was a really nice event and people really enjoyed it.

"It was an amazing amount of raised and I don't think we quite expected to raise that amount."

Leith Roscoe Connolley from Lucy Cobb Boutique said: "It is always such a lovely event for us, the ladies are lovely, and it is nice for us in Saddleworth to go into a new area.

"We have done many fashion shows over past weeks, it is what we do, we work with people raising money for charity.

"We have raised hundreds and hundreds of pounds from charity fashion shows."
