BURY Comets youngster Tom Whitwam completed a six-meeting maximum in the final rounds of the season-long Manchester League which took place at Goshen.

Whitwam raced away with the under-10s trophy in spite of the valiant efforts of rival Louis Turner.

James Elston looked out of the u13s running after missing two rounds but a superb four-ride maximum saw him snatch the trophy by two points.

The seniors missed out on the chance of the title this year with the honours going to Stockport with Bury rider Chris Parish scoring 15 points although ruing matches lost through injury.

In the British Youth and Junior Championships at Underwood in the Welsh valleys, the only point dropped by Whitwam was against the British champion, Brinkhoff, while both Elston and Adam Watson missed out on glory.

Meanwhile, in the Northern Fours League in Hull, Goshen did really well to finish second, while Bury came joint third with Hull in a competition that has already been won by Stockport.

In the Ken Macreesh-sponsored individual junior event at Goshen, Will Owens took the A final and overall honours from Elston, Ryan Livesey and Kris Ramsden.

Adam Watson took the B final ahead of Dan Taylor and Laura Watson, while, in the C final, Adam Turnbull led home the pack with 14 points. Whitwam and Turner finished with 11 points each. The group D final went to Bradley Sullivan after a race off.
