Bury Ladies first team cruised past Rochdale on Saturday to secure second place in division two of the Greater Manchester Hockey Association, as they enter the Christmas break.

A bright start from Rochdale saw them take an early lead, as Bury struggled to find their rhythm. However, midway through the half a driving run from Emma Bailey, created a chance for Jo Millar, who smashed the equaliser into the bottom corner.

Five minutes before half time, Bury took a deserved lead, with Bailey once again creating the chance. This time, her driven cross was expertly deflected in at the far post by winger Charlotte Bates, as Bury went into the break in positive mood.

The second half saw Bury take full control of the game, as they found the net four times. Lisa Davies deflected in a short corner for her fourth goal of the season, with Angela Shore also finding the net. Beth Topping, who produced a fine second half performance despite carrying an injury, then found the net after a fine solo run; claiming her 15th goal of the season.

In the final seconds of the game Jo Millar rounded off the scoring with her second goal of the match, leaving the ladies two points behind league leaders City of Manchester.
