IT may be considered merely a holiday past time by many but plans are ongoing to increase the profile of British air hockey – and make Bury its capital.
Britain’s first professional tournament was due to take place in August but has had to be postponed as the UK Air Hockey Association (UKAHA) seeks further sponsorship.
If the proposal gets the go ahead plans will be made to bring international competitions to the Castle Leisure Centre, giving it worldwide recognition.
Hassan Mushaid, of the UKAHA, says they are keen to put the town on the map.
“We want to make Bury the Las Vegas of the UK,” he said.
“A lot of the board members are from the area and we think it’s the best town in the world and would love to give it some global recognition.”
