Bury agree deal for Burton Albion defender Chris Hussey
CHRIS Hussey is set to join Bury after the full-back agreed to waive a 12-month extension to his contract at current club Burton Albion.
The 25-year-old defender will now join the Shakers on a two-year deal when his current Brewers contract runs out at the end of June.
Hussey enjoyed a successful loan spell at Bury at the end of last season, scoring two goals in 11 appearances at left-back.
The former Coventry and AFC Wimbledon defender formed an impressive partnership with winger Danny Mayor on the left and created a number of assists with his pin-point crossing and set-pieces.
Hussey’s form led to a recall by Burton for the final match of the season and he went on to play all three matches of their ultimately unsuccessful League Two play-off campaign.
Those four matches tipped the young defender over a set number of appearances for the season, triggering an automatic 12-month extension to his one-year deal at Burton.
But a statement from Bury chairman Stewart Day explained: “The two parties mutually agreed to waive his contract extension for a second season.
“Hussey had triggered a clause in his contract which earned him a second year, but both parties agreed to part company and we look forward to having Chris back at the JD Stadium.”
