BEN Black’s unique try grabbed the attention despite being one of eight ran in by Sedgley Park in a 50-8 home win against Preston Grasshoppers.

The Tigers were awarded a penalty on their five-metre line and Preston assumed they were going for a lineout so with their backs turned Steve Collins chipped the ball into the hands of prop Black who touched down in the corner. as the visitors stood watching.

It was an unusual score with footage attracting more than 300,000 views on Twitter.

But it was just a small part of a dominant Tigers display that puts them second in the National Two North table.

Coach Steve Hazzelby said: “Preston had gained promotion last season and we knew that a top performance was needed.

“And that’s what we got - eight tries scored, a bonus point win and a top performance from the players.”

Sedgley started strongly and a first score came within five minutes following a scrum in the Preston 22. The ball was moved quickly for left winger Rhys Henderson to touch down in the corner and Collins added the conversion.

The second score came soon after with a great try for second row Connor James who raced in from 30 metres after a lovely line break by skipper Matt Riley. Collins added the conversion to make it 14-0 within the first 10 minutes.

Black’s unique try and Collins’ conversion made it 21-0 and a fourth and bonus-point try came for new player, Tane Bentley, who latched on to the end of a lovely line break from Matt Riley after great driving play by the forwards before Collins added his fourth conversion.

Preston did convert a penalty but a fifth try by the in-form Matt Riley saw Sedgley lead 35-3 at the break.

Preston started well in the second half and were rewarded with a well-worked try after powerful driving from their forwards.

However the pressure from the home team was intense and another three tries were to follow. The sixth came for Henderson after a good run by number eight Tom Ailes and was followed six minutes later by one for winger Andy Riley after sharp inter passing between full-back Rob Holloway and scrum Half Sam Stelmazcek. He added his second before the end.
