Oliver Swan has been named as Radcliffe Athletic Club’s Junior of the Year.

The 12-year-old received his award from Peter Warr, head of the junior section, and Louise Shield who helps to coach the juniors.

The presentation took place during the club’s annual festive run which visits the Radcliffe streets with the best Christmas lights.

Oliver, pictured with dad Ian, has competed in the Red Rose Cross Country League this year and is also a regular at the Saturday morning 5k parkruns and the Sunday morning Burrs Community Run in Bury.

Warr said: “What a star Oliver is. He is always at club nights, bringing energy and enthusiasm. He has got stuck into cross country, completed other races during the year, done parkruns and Burrs, and is getting better and better all the time.”

Senior Annette McQueen got an early Christmas present when she was the second woman at the Big Feat X-MasTrail Marathon, bagging a new personal best as well.

The event started and finished at Sale Water Park and took in Chorlton Water Park, the Trans Pennine Trail and Bridgewater Canal.

She ran a super 3hrs 44mins 2secs, coming 15th out of 163 finishers, and said: “Conditions were great on the day for me to come away with a PB. I really enjoyed the trails and it was a great event with lots of Christmas vibes from the runners and volunteers. A lot were in festive gear and it ended nicely with mince pies and mulled wine.”

RAC members were out in force as Neil Naisbitt completed his 100th parkrun last Saturday, clocking 23:23 at Heaton Park, while Gary Adkins was 13th in 18:02.
