Prestwich Heys picked up a useful point in a hard fought 1-1 draw at West Didsbury & Chorlton on Tuesday night.

With Matt Davies unavailable, Heys began what is always a tough fixture without any of their top three goalscorers. However, they should some good attacking intent from the outset with Pa Jenkins rattling the bar from the edge of the area in only the 3rd minute.

Indeed, Heys were the sharper side in the opening half with Rio Wilson-Heyes seeing a shot diverted for a corner and then firing just wide on the half hour after the home keeper had blocked an effort.

The hosts had a couple of half chances but Heys were the more incisive and took the lead in the 38th minute. Good work by Wilson-Heyes created an opening for Brad Sullivan to fire low into the bottom right corner.

It was a lead Heys held until the interval and Wilson-Heyes went close again on the restart. However, it was Didsbury who emerged the stronger overall after the break as they levelled matters in the 54th minute.

After a corner had been cleared the ball was pumped back in to the box and Ben Elliott steered a header home for the equaliser.

It signalled a tricky spell for Heys with Russ Saunders denying Oliver Ford and former player Lee Grimshaw going close with a back heeled effort.

Heys were not without threat with Sam Olawumi firing over and as the game entered the final quarter they introduced strikers Jack Coop and Connor Martin, both returning from lengthy injuries, in a bid to secure the three points.

However, In a tense finish it was centre half Aaron Chalmers who went closest for Heys, with a close range effort before in added time Saunders saved at close range from Ezeikel Eme to leave both sides with a point apiece.

Heys remain fifth but now have two huge games against play off rivals this week with 4th placed Chadderton at Adie Moran Park on Saturday (3pm) before a trip to sixth placed Kendal Town follows next Tuesday (7.45pm)
