Eighteen members of Bury AC put in fine displays at the prestigious Trafford 10k on Sunday.

The race is included in the club’s senior Grand Prix series of races. and first Bury athlete home in 34mins 5secs was Luke Harreld, the time securing him 244th place overall and 34th in his V35 category. Hot on his heels was Jack Griffiths, recording 34:22 in 255th place and claiming 26th in the V35 category. Team captain Byron Edwards produced his best run after recovering from injury, with 34:38 to take 282nd place and an excellent 12th in the V45 category, while Paul Johnston was just one place behind in the V45 category, his time of 35:05 giving him 308th place overall.

Alia Braithwaite had a superb race, crossing the line in 38:07 for eighth in the V35 category and 67th female overall. Abigail Warburton’s 38:31 saw her 72nd female finisher.

The day before, Bury’s Ethan Statham was representing Greater Manchester in the National Primary School Cross Country Championships at Prestwold Hall, near Loughborough. He took an excellent 12th place in the Year 6 Boys’ race out of more than 260 starters.

At the Heaton Parkrun, young Lucy Dent set a new personal best of 20:29 to take second female finisher. Bury’s Rob Fowler also took second place in the men’s category, crossing the line in 17:35.

This weekend will see Bury’s Oliver Cooper competing in the national indoor combined events championships in Sheffield.
