Ten of Bury AC’s seniors competed in the Mid Cheshire 5k in Kingsley last Friday evening.

Fastest local was Luke Harreld, who covered the course in 16mins 11secs - illness earlier in the week thwarting his aim to duck under 16 minutes. Just one second slower was Martin Clark, recovering steadily from injury, and next was Jack Griffiths, with 16:38, followed by Paul Johnston (17:45). His daughter, Caitlyn, smashed her previous personal best, the Leeds University student recording 18:17. She was just two seconds ahead of team-mate, Alia Braithwaite, who also recorded a new lifetime best. Pete Barrow covered the course in 18:51, followed by Giles Bennett (19:24). Ellie Richardson clocked 19:49 and Harriet Griffiths 19:53, both marginally outside their best times for the distance.

Saturday saw Bury AC endurance coach, Ian Warrington, take on the gruelling Three Peaks fell race. The 24.2-mile course requires competitors to climb nearly a mile of ascent in scaling the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. Warrington covered the course in a very respectable 4:27:26 to achieve a second class award in 224th place. For context the race had well over 600 starters.

Young Lucy Dent set a new PB of 20:08 in Saturday’s Stretford Parkrun. The 13-year-old is finding her form and was first junior female in the event.

There were a number of Bury athletes at the Heaton Parkrun. Oliver Kirby set a new best of 18:56, just three seconds ahead of Matthew Finch. Matthew Garside recorded 19:07 and Sarah Thomas 19:58, while Katie Geelan crossed the line in 20:23.

On Sunday, Alexander Hannay took eighth in the Bolton 10k with 36:21 - a new PB for the distance.

Club trustee Susan Wheeldon-Gorst competed in the Howgills Fell Half Marathon. Despite turning her ankle on two occasions she ran well to complete the tough course in 2:48:00 and took third in the V50 category.
