RYAN Lowe has only been playing alongside new loan signing Mark Cullen for seven days, but he has already seen enough to suggest the Hull striker, who is with the Shakers until the end of the year, is an impressive acquisition.

Cullen made his first start for the club on Saturday as Michael Jones scored the only goal in a 1-0 defeat of non-leaguers FC United.

And last season’s leading scorer Lowe, pictured, is looking forward to seeing Cullen link up with himself, Andy Bishop and Lenell John-Lewis.

“I didn’t know much about Mark before he came here but he has been on fire in training, he is scoring loads of goals,” said Lowe.

“He is energetic, has a good touch and is lively in and around the box so he is exactly what we need.

“We need somebody who has the legs to get in behind defenders and work them hard so I can then tap some goals in.

“There are four forwards here now, but the more the better.

“Over the last couple of years we have always had injury problems and there is nothing better than playing on the pitch and knowing there are two quality players waiting to take your place. It spurs you on.”

Lowe, meanwhile, says the family spirit that was the hallmark of Bury’s success last season is the reason he decided to commit his future to the club last week.

“It is flattering when you are linked with other clubs but I came here for a reason, which was to be part of a successful team,” he said.

“We were successful last year so why change?

“Your head does get turned by things but we have got a great dressing room here and an up-and-coming manager who I believe can ply his trade at a higher level than Bury one day.

“The ideas he has got are phenomenal. He and everyone else at the club are the reason I am still here.

“Hopefully I can remain a big part of what this club is trying to achieve. My heart is here and this is where my future lies.”

l Daral Pugh has left his post as the club’s head of youth for personal reasons. Centre of excellence manager Alan Moore will replace him.
