GILES Coke believes there will be no respite for Bury when new Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson brings his struggling League One side to Gigg Lane on Saturday.

Midfielder Coke came on as a late substitute in the 3-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Saturday following his loan return from neighbouring Sheffield Wednesday as the January transfer window merry-go-round got into full swing last week.

The defeat to – by comparison to Bury – the cash-rich Blades gave Richie Barker’s fine footballing side something of a reality check, but Coke reckons the Somerset side, buoyed by their new boss and a win over Tranmere Rovers in their last outing, will be an equally tough proposition.

The 25-year-old Londoner will stay with the Shakers until the end of the season while wide man Mike Jones went in the opposite direction in a deal believed to be in the region of £100,000.

“It’s going to be a hard game,” said Coke. “They beat Tranmere at the weekend and they are going to be on a high. “We are going to have to up our game and we should be looking for three points. No disrespect to Yeovil, but these are the sort of games you have to look to win. “But their new manager will get them fired up. “It’s not going to be easy – no way. The new manager, Gary Johnson, is going to lift them.”

It is Coke’s second spell at Gigg Lane following his return to Hillsborough at the end of October when he believed his form for Bury had given him every chance of breaking into Gary Megson’s promotion-chasing team.

“I went back and I tried to do everything right, but he (Megson) didn’t want to give me a chance. But that’s football,” said Coke. “When I asked him about it he just said you’ve got to wait for your opportunity, and that was it.

“I’m here to the end of the season. Hopefully, I can help Bury push on up the table.

“When I arrived here last time I wasn’t completely fit because I had an operation in the summer and it took me a bit of time to get going.

“But I am not in a similar situation, although I have only played three games in two months. I need to do a bit of extra running. Although I’ve been keeping fit, I need games.”

Meanwhile, Bury midfielder Andy Haworth has gone to Bradford City until the end of the current campaign with a view to the deal being made permanent, and manager Richie Barker has borrowed Welsh Under-21 midfielder-cum-striker Ryan Doble, aged 20, from Southampton for a month.

A versatile product of the Saints Academy, Doble has been a consistent performer at under-18s level and has made one appearance for the first team. He goes straight into the squad for the Yeovil game.
