BURY winger David Worrall has revealed how Richie Barker’s special diet is helping return to full fitness.

After making an impressive start to the season, Worrall has been a fringe player while battling glandular fever and injury, but he was one of the Shakers better attacking threats – down the left flank – in the 3-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Mancunian is likely to be even more of a key player for Bury following the departure of fellow wide boy Mike Jones to Sheffield Wednesday last week.

“Hopefully, I can now get back to what I was doing at the start of the season,” he said. “Now that I am over my illness and injury problems, I want to help the team out.

“It took me a month to fight my illness, and the gaffer has helped me out by sorting out my food.

“With the help of the physio (Tom Walsh) and the club doctor, they’ve sorted out a diet which puts the energy I lost back into my body.”

Worrall was replaced by Lenell John-Lewis for the last 20 minutes and admitted to suffering from his lack of match fitness.

“Me and the team had a good first half, but towards the end I felt my legs going,” he said.
