PRIDE of place in this week's report is the two long awaited items of off-track news.

The first is the official notification that Bury Cycle Speedway club has achieved British cycling's Go-Ride accreditation. This notice places them among the small elite group of clubs leading the way in terms of good practice in many aspects of their operation.

The second item is the announcement that the British Individual staged at Goshen on the recent bank holiday Monday will be featured in the Sport Nation programme on Sky Sports 2 on Thursday, October 19 at 6pm.

The weekend racing had a distinct "end of season" feel about it although the Bury riders went on to achieve more success in Saturday's Midland/North Individual events at Astley & Tyldesley.

Bury failed to win a single placing in the event last year, but this time round, Ryan O'Shea took an excellent runner-up in the under 13s with 18 points.

Michael Collins was unlucky to crash in the three man run-off for the third place trophy on 15 points.

In the under 16s, Chris Dyson made the final but was out of sorts and managed only 11 points. So intense was the competition, that the pre-meeting favourite, Leicester's Declan Crouch, who scored four wins and a crash, missed out on the first three rides altogether. Birmingham's Chris Timms, Sandwell's Lee Smith and Leicester's Carl Jarvis occupied the rostrum.

Chris Parish tried hard in the under 19s but his 13 points was a poor reward for his efforts.

After succeeding six years as veteran's champion, Paul Dyson put the disappointment of losing his northern title from a previous week into winning this one with an impeccable four ride maximum 16 points. Paul also scored eight points in the open final.

Ben Scranage recovered from a terrible opening two rides which netted him only two points to finishing with two wins and a second for 13 points.

A marathon session at Goshen on Sunday in the final round of the Northern Fours and Junior League, saw an amazingly large turnout of under 13s. Two separate events had to be run to accommodate them playing havoc with the scheduled timetable.

Special mention must be made of Ryan O'Shea who has won the season long under 13s Grand Prix title with a total of 133 points. Five points behind was brother, Declan who took runner-up and Michael Collins in joint third place with 123 points.

Bury took second place on the day with 129 points, 20 points behind Sheffield's 149. An overall creditable third place for the season was achieved.

Finally, Bury's trip to Oxford on Sunday to face British premier league champions, Horspath Hammers was rained off.

On Saturday, the final home fixture of the season takes place at the Goshen track with the staging of the Chairman's Cup. Events start at 2pm.
