BURY'S Scott Quigg admitted he was left devastated after losing his double world title clash with Carl Frampton on a split decision in Manchester tonight.

Quigg lost 115-113, 112-116, 112-116 to the Belfast fighter who added the WBA super bantamweight belt to his IBF crown after a thrilling 12 rounds which he fought well to earn a deserved victory.

It was the first defeat of Quigg's professional career after 34 fights and he revealed after the fight an upper cut from Frampton in round four hurt his jaw and early indications are that it is broken.

The 27-year-old conceded he was beaten by the better fighter on the night but felt he left his attack too late in the day after hurting Frampton in the 11th round.

Quigg said: "He caught me with a peach of an upper cut which has done my jaw and I had to reevaluate what I was doing.

"Maybe I left it a bit late.

"I am hiding my disappointment because I am a born winner and I am devastated."

Quigg and promoter Eddie Hearn are now targeting a rematch with Frampton in his home city of Belfast later this year - possible at Windsor Park.

But first the Bury star has to get his jaw assessed and get over the disappointment of a first defeat.

Quigg revealed that Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney, who was one of a host of celebrities ringside, came into his dressing room after the fight and told him to 'keep his chin up'.

"That was good of him," Quigg said. "He told me to keep positive and get back quickly and that is what I am determined to do."
