ABDUL Khan’s run in the National Cadet and Junior Boxing Championships was ended by a split-decision defeat in the pre-quarter-finals on Saturday.
The 15-year-old Bury ABC fighter lost in the 46-48k division to Ali Shear, of Horton ABC.
Coach Mick Jelley said: “There was nothing in it. Two of the five judges gave it to Abdul. We were proud of him.”
Khan’s Bury team-mate Ali Akbar Javid has been given a bye to the finals, which will take place in Basildon next weekend.
Meanwhile, Hamza Mughal, aged 17, stopped Simon Atherton, of host club Coastal ABC, in the first round of their 60k bout in Morecambe on Friday.
