ELPM were grateful to number 11 batsman Paul Hewart for guiding them to an unlikely home victory over North Manchester League Division One derby rivals Tottington St Johns.
The Millers looked to be suffering a hangover from the previous week’s Calverley Cup success against Rochdale Catholic Club when they slumped to 116-9 in pursuit of Totty’s total of 162.
Simon Carr took 3-35 and Dean Worthington 3-22 for the hosts, but ELPM’s flakey top order struggled after opener Gareth Young was run out for 23.
Only Matty Partington (25) and Simon Carr (25) made any telling contribution and ELPM looked down and out. However, for the third time this season, Hewart led the team home, hitting eight fours in his score of 35 not out and with Danny Willett 25 not out they put on 48 to see the Millers home to an unexpected victory.
