THE chairman of the Greater Manchester Cricket League steering committee is impressed with the amount of commitment being shown by people working towards the proposed new league.

Nine working groups have been set up to work on various aspects of the league which, if it materialises, will introduce multi-division Premier League cricket in the area and potentially mark the end of up to 10 established leagues including the Bolton League and Bolton Association.

The working groups and steering committee are currently researching and formulating a prospectus for the GM League which is scheduled to be produced for all current leagues and clubs to be able to read by the end of April.

Forming the working groups are 51 people including league administrators, umpires, players and volunteers.

Mr Kay, who has been chairman of the North Manchester League for 15 years, said: “To witness 51 people working together for the betterment of all shows just how important people feel about this direction of travel.

"It is also nice to see all the meetings being shared across all leagues and all being given the opportunity to partake should they wish to do so.

"The advice from outside organisations and our county board is also invaluable.”

On the prospectus work, he added: "We appear to be off to a great start so let’s ensure that we do the work justice. To do just that it needs to be out just as the 2015 season commences. It looks a very exciting prospect.”
