A YOUNG Bury gymnast will be hoping for glory in the Under-14s Scottish Gymnastics Championships this month.

Joshua Lincoln, aged 14, is a member of Bury Gymnastics Club and also trains with the British youth gymnastics squad.

He recently travelled to Pas de Calais, France to compete for Scotland at the Coup des Arcs where he placed 15th overall in a field that featured gymnasts from 18 countries.

Joshua is the current u14s British Champion on the vault apparatus having won the gold medal at the annual British Championships in Glasgow last year, and will travel to Perth for this year’s Scottish event with hopes of placing highly.

Last year also saw Lincoln take the silver medal in the British Elite Grades Championship – British youth gymnastics’ premier event and win selection to the commonwealth games mentoring programme.

Joshua is one of six current Bury Gymnastics club members representing the club at national level with the Tennyson Avenue club the most represented club at u14s level in the country.

He is joined by Finlay Dunn, Jack Chamberlain, Joshua Binns, Lazarus Benjamin, and Charlie Higson.

Dedicated Joshua, who is coached by Paul Hockwart, is “so committed,” said dad Brad Lincoln.

“You have to be so committed and focused at a very young age to be able to do what Josh does.

“There are huge success stories at the club with Joshua, Jack Chamberlain, Theo Seeger, Finlay Dunn and others all featuring in the national squad, and representing Bury, the North West of England and the country throughout the last few years.”

Joshua is currently in training for this year’s British Championships which will take place at Liverpool’s Echo Arena this spring.
