BURY world champion boxer Scott Quigg is on the road to being fighting fit again, thanks to the help of experienced conditioning coach Ric Moylan.

The Trafford-based trainer is working hard with the reigning WBA super bantamweight king as he recovers from a hand injury picked up in his last fight against Hidenori Otake in November.

And the man who has previously worked with the likes of Ricky Hatton, Frankie Gavin, Tony Bellew and Anthony Crolla believes Quigg will return stronger than ever this year.

Moylan works in tandem with Quigg's trainer Joe Gallagher, focusing on strength, conditioning and nutritional training at a gym in Radcliffe.

And he says the 26-year-old is well on the road to recovery and could be back in the ring in May or June.

Moylan told Bury Times: "The injury was a setback for Scott.

"Everyone knows his punching power and it saw him split two tendons in the middle and index fingers of his right-hand in the ninth round of his last fight.

"Typically, he carried on and battled through the pain but it needed surgery.

"The way that surgery goes, though, he will probably be back stronger.

"It has also given him the chance to work on other areas while he has been unable to punch.

"He is naturally fit anyway and one of the most focused and disciplined boxers I have ever worked with.

"His recovery has gone really well and everyone knows he wants the big fights this year.

"He is due to start light punching so I think he could back in May or June."

Moylan, aged 36, has been working with Quigg for four years after initially meeting him when he was under the wing of Hatton's team.

And he is happy to still be part of his set-up as he progresses towards bigger and better fights.

He added: "Scott deserves all the success he gets because of his commitment and attention to detail.

"Joe Gallagher is a fantastic trainer and he focuses on the boxing side of things.

"It is my job to look after conditioning and sports science and Scott embraces that as well as the traditional boxing training."
