THE men’s team claimed top spot in the Summer League table with a comprehensive 6-2 defeat of Blackburn.
Four goals from in-form striker James Oakes were the highlight of the night while midfielders Sam Nicholson and Simon Major each chipped in with a goal to round off the scoring.
It was an outstanding team display, which made up for the earlier 5-3 defeat to Blackburn in the second week of the season.
Bury will look to consolidate their position next Thursday as they take on a Preston side who pushed them all the way in the reverse fixture, grabbing a 6-6 draw in the last minute.
Bury’s mixed team continued their good form with a thumping 8-1 victory over Wigan.
Emma Bailey opened the scoring for Bury with a thunderous short corner strike before the visitors quickly grabbed an equaliser.
However goals from Oakes and Helen Beard ensured that Bury had a healthy lead at half time.
After Toby Carr-Brown fired home the fourth goal, striker Adam Johnson bagged a hat-trick to seal the result, with Carr-Brown rounding the scoring off with his second.
Bury play league leaders Lymm this week.
