YWCA Bury's under-16s side will compete for the national title.

The group, who were specially assembled for the competition and have only played together eight times, will represent the North West alongside Tameside after both sides qualified through the regional rounds.

Bury were unbeaten in the group stages and saw off Chester 37-24 in the semi-finals.

The finals will be held in Redbridge, Essex over two days in the last weekend of the month, when 18 teams from across the country will compete for the national title.

YWCA's u14s narrowly missed out on making it a double after losing their semi-final, also against Chester.

The u14s and u16s both finished runners-up at the nationals last year, each losing their final by the same 20-19 scoreline. It was the first time they had reach the national finals in 10 years.

The senior side ended the North West Premier League season in third place after winning their final game 59-34 against Manchester.

Imogen Turner was named player of the match, a worthy accolade to add to her player-of-the-season trophy after leading from the front throughout the campaign with her outstanding shooting.

YWCA narrowly missed out on a play-off position, but ended the season with the most goals of any side and an 80 per cent shot accuracy.

They also conceded the fewest number of goals, but were ultimately undone by two narrow defeats against second-placed Warrington, who will take up the league's promotion play-off spot, with league rules barring champions Oldham from taking it due to the club's first-team currently competing in the next tier up.
