First published in Other Sport

BURY Croquet Club’s Caesars beat their Fylde visitors 6-1 in the North West Handicap League as Tony Philips and Bob Whittle came out on top in their doubles game.

Andy Brandwood won both his singles matches as did Philips and Whittle.

The Advanced team lost narrowly 5-4 at Bowden after Paul Rigge got them off to a fine start with 14-point win before David Barrett and Matt Holmes were whitewashed.

Rigge won again by 17 points and Barrett bounced back with a 12-point victory, although Holmes suffered a 24-point reverse.

The see-saw nature of the clash continued as Barrett went down by 20 points and Holmes was beaten by 24 points before Rigge lost the match decider by just two points.

In the first midweek match, Bury were beaten 4-3 by Pendle and in the Short Croquet League, they went down 14-2 at home to a strong Southport team.
