THERE was a good turnout from Radcliffe AC at the Red Rose Cross Cross League event at Leverhulme Park, Bolton on Saturday. Despite being one of the smaller club they had a creditable 21 taking on the damp conditions with plenty of mud.

First home for Radcliffe among the women was Catherine White (V40), who was 61st out of 120 women, followed by Kath Davies (V50), Chemane Brier, Miriam Nethercott (V40), Rachael Stoney, getting back into her racing, Eileen Royle, who was second vet-65, Eileen Sharman, third vet-55, Sinead Hayes and Vicky Radford.

Among the men an improving David Ward (V40) was first home for club in 91st position out of 205 runners. Next home was Mark Williams (V45) coming back from injury, Rob Andrew, Wayne Jennings, Ian West (V50) Dave Bartlett, George Critchley (V55); Mark Cartwright (V45), Ken Smith (V55), Mark Emmett (V55) getting back into racng after injury, Mauro Rotondi (V40) and Tom West, who was the third vet-7 in the event.

David Wells took on the challenging Whinlatter Off-road Duathlon event in the northern Lake District on Sunday and came a 32nd out of 240 competitors. In near perfect conditions he completed a 6.5k multi-terrian run, an 18k mountain bike ride and a 5.5k trail run in an overall time of 2.29.17. Even though it was tough terrain Wells loved it”.
