RADCLIFFE AC's Fiona Lynch came home with a silver medal when she took on the Anglesey Coastal Marathon.

The vet-40 was second woman in a time of 4hrs 22mins in the tough North Wales event on Saturday. Luckily competitors were not hampered by snow and had cold, but perfect, running conditions.

""It was a really clear day and there were fantastic views of the Irish Sea," she said.

"The race was a mixture of fell, road, trail and cross-country and it was tough going especially in the last five miles."

Lynch received a finishers' medal and a silver medal for her second place She travelled to the event with clubmate Luigi Salzano who also ran a fine time of 4:34, putting him 17th overall.

Simon Barrett travelled to Preston on Sunday to compete in the Inskip Half Marathon and was rewarded with a personal best of 1:33:01. Barrett, who is a new club member, said there was ice patches but no snow on a fairly flat course and it was "great going."

There was plenty of snow for the five who took part in The Hebden Challenge in West Yorkshire on Saturday. Starting in Mytholmroyd and organised by the Long Distance Walkers Association it boasted a lot of climbing and challengers could either run or walk a 15-mile route or a 22 miler.

In the shorter distance, Kath Davies enjoyed the tough running in the snow, covering the 15 miles in 3:20 and coming home in 19th place.

Dave Ward, who had originally decided to do the shorter distance, carried on to complete the full 22 feeling strong and running a good time of 4:25.

Mauro Rotondi was buzzing after completing the 22-mile in 5:30 and said: "It was really challenging but I loved every minute of it."

Alan Sumner and Peter McNulty also did the longer route finishing in around six hours.

In the 5k Bolton Parkrun, Rob Lister came 29th out of 185 runners in 23:08 and Vince Ashton clocked 27:01. The Heaton Parkrun was cancelled because of ice on the course.
