RADCLIFFE AC held its annual presentation evening at the Bury Masonic Rooms on Saturday night.

The event, which was attended by 50 members, family and friends, saw club president Tom West and chairman Mark Emmett hand out the trophies.

The Nellie Halstead Cup, named after the Radcliffe Olympian and given for fine performances throughout the season, went to Fiona Lynch.The Norman Schofield Trophy, named after a former member and given for hard work in both running and within the club, was awarded to Mauro Rotondi, while the Terry Nortley Cup, named after the club's former president who died in 2011, went to Sinead Hayes for her determination in her running in cross country and on the fells. She also took first senior woman in the cross country.

Vet-50 Kath Davies received the Ladies Cross Country Cup for her top performances in the club cross country championship and vet-50 Ian West won the Men's Cross Country Cup.The most improved woman over the year was Zena Knowles with the most improved man award going to Chris Saville. The Radcliffe Achievement Shield for work behind the scenes went to club press officer Sheila McNulty.

Chemane Brier was first senior woman on the road, while Sheila Jones took the honour for the vet-55s. Davies was also first vet-50 on the road and Eileen Royle first vet-65. Rob Shiels was first senior man on the road, Rotondi first vet-40 and Iain Harris first vet-65. John Andrew was first vet-40 in cross country and Ian West first-vet-50.

There were special awards bought by contributions from club members for coaches, Mark Emmett, Eileen Royle, Iain Harris, Merv Maneely and also Mark Cartwright for his work on the fells.

On the racing scene, two members travelled to Italy to take part in the Rome Marathon on Sunday.

Mauro Rotondi and Luigi Salzano found themselves facing rain during the course. Despite dealing with tough cobbled sections Salzano clocking 3hrs 38mins 32secs and Rotondi 3:48:37, a new personal best for him.

The race in the Eternal City visited famous landmarks such as the Trevi Fountain and finished at the Coliseum. Rotondi, who lived in Rome while at university, later took time out to visit family and friends. Salzano said: "It was a beautiful run through a beautiful city."

Sheila Jones (V55 ) and Kath Davies travelled to the Lake District to take on the Coniston 14 – an undulating road run round Coniston Water. Jones clocked 1:56:51 and Davies 1:58:00.

On Sunday, Davies joined eight other members and friends in spring sunshine in the 17-mile local Two Crosses Circuit.

The event, which started in Tottington, was organised by the East Lanchasire Long Distance Walkers Association and could be either run or walked.

The group ran most of the way together round the undulating circuit which took in Holcombe moorland and they finished between 3hrs 18mins and 3:21.

Also on Sunday Fiona Lynch took on the Wolf's Pit Fell Race in Derbyshire covering almost six miles and 1,500 feet of climbing, a lot of that in a "killer" climb near the beginning.

The 5k park runs were as popular as ever with six taking part at Bolton's Leverhulme Park and Mark Williams (V45) coming seventh out of

329 runners in 20mins 03secs. John Scarlett got another personal best with 20:28, Mark Wolfenden (V45) ran 26:00, Eileen Sharman (V60) had a new pb with 26:53, Eileen Royle ran 27:30 and Dawn Evans (V45) clocked 36:42.

At Heaton Park, Peter Hunter had a new pb with 20:36 putting him 33rd out of 571 runners. Vince Ashton ran 25:00. At Worsley Wood, Rob Lister (V45) clocked 37:57 running with his wife Melanie who was recovering from injury.
