RADCLIFFE Athletic Club's Alan Brown took time out from a holiday in Greece to run the Skiathos UrbanTrail 10k with his daughter Nicola.

Normally held in May, the tough 10k, which features a lot of steps and steep climbs, had been postponed until Sunday and was run in scorching conditions.

When they saw the event was on they decided to go for it, finishing together in 61mins with Brown taking 21st place and his daughter, who runs for Bury Athletic Club, coming home third woman.

Brown said the organisation was "amazing", with a pasta party the night before, a medal and t-shirt and free food and ice-cream at the finish.

Paul Swyers and Dave Bartlett took on a double challenge when they competed in two fell races on consecutive evenings.

Along with Lee Turner, they ran the midweek four-mile Holcombe Two Towers Race on local moorland covering 1,312 feet of climbing.

Turner was first home for the club in 47:14, with Swyers (V50) clocking 49:34 and Bartlett 57:04.

The following evening they joined six other members in the Walsh Two Lads Fell Race at Horwich, part of the Run The Moors Grand Prix in which several local clubs, including Radcliffe, take part.

First home for Radcliffe in the five-mile event, which has 899 feet of climbing, was James Hall in 49th position in 42:38secs. Second was Chris Paxton in 62nd in 43:52 and third was Luigi Salzano in 71st place with 44:38secs.

Kris Lee clocked 46:45, Swyers 48:09, Mark Wolfenden 51:27, Bartlett 54:04 and Caroline Mullineaux 1:06:50, despite going astray on the course.

On Sunday, Salzano and Mullineaux were in action again along with Sinead Hayes in the Knowl Hill Fell Race, which is part of the club's fell championships.

Salzano clocked 1:01:25 for the six-mile run, which features 1,300 feet of climbing on moorland surrounding Norden, in Rochdale, to finish 49th out of 137 runners. Hayes ran 1:25:26 and Mullineaux 1:31:06.

Peter Hunter was 42nd out of 319 runners in the 5k Bolton parkrun, finishing in 23:00, with Rob Lister (V50) only three seconds behind him.

Ken Smith (V55) ran 23:35, Kath Davies (V50) 26:47 and junior Grace Williams, running with her dad Mark, clocked 27:42.
