TRACK and field is proving to be a happy hunting ground for Bury Athletic Club this summer following some more sterling performances over the weekend.

The women's team won the latest Cheshire League fixture at Salford on Saturday, with the club taking second overall after the men finished third.

And Bury kept up their 100 per cent record in the North of England series on Sunday after beating Pendle by just four points in Preston.

The women’s team's excellent first place in the Cheshire League was helped by some great performances from some of the club's senior athletes, such as Pam Hitchen, Jenny Yates, Alison Dale and Ruth Worthington, who all played their part in the victory.

The under-11s took second place with the Bury team scoring the highest number of points overall.

Reilly Carson, Connie Potts, Noah Carter, Enya Hartley, Ayva Turner and Millie Uprichard all claimed victories or personal bests for the u11s, while the girls' team won the 4x100m relay.

Jerel Livingston was once again the star performer for the u13s, winning the 100m and long jump.

There were also great performances from Jay Cook, Elliott Savage, Evan Savage, Ella Hall, Freya Potts and Erin Kenyon.

In the u15s events, there were wins for Charlotte Larkin (B 200m), Charlotte Speakman-Farnworth (800m) and Hattie Vaughan (long jump).

The girls also won the 4x100 relay.

A depleted senior team were made to work hard for their victory in the North of England series on Sunday as Pendle pushed them all the way.

Athletes were forced to try a range of events to try to maximise points.

Benn Heywood won the B 100m in 12.1secs before finishing fifth in the B 800m and fourth in the B 1500m and then finishing a busy day with a leg in the 4x400m relay.

James Coghlan, competing in his first season against seniors, was third in the A 100m in a new best of 12.0. He was also third in the A 200m and B long jump and ran the first leg in the 4x100m relay.

Ben Coop had an excellent afternoon, winning the A 400m in a best of 51.3 and finishing third in the A 800m in a best of 1:58.5, before running in both relay teams.

There were wins for Laura Evans and Chloe Fairhurst in the A and B 400m hurdles, Katie Geelan in the B 1500m and 3000m races, Jenny Yates in the B 800m and Nicola Quick in the pole vault. Young Lucy Alcock ran well to finish second in the A 1500m and Sophie Whittaker, having put in all the hard work, was cruelly outsprinted in the A 3000m.

The scorching heat made it hard for the distance runners but Byron Edwards and Mark Johnson ran well to take third and fourth, respectively, in the A and B 5000m, while team manager Giles Bennett took on the gruelling 3,000m steeplechase.

In the field events, Paul Horrocks was third in the A shot, discus and hammer and second in the B javelin. Paul Stocks was second in the A javelin and B hammer, while Matt Alcock was fourth in the B shot and B discus.
