NEAL Emmerson earned a top-10 finish at the Trotters 5 in Bolton last week as he led home a strong turnout of 27 runners from Radcliffe Athletic Club.

He clocked a time of 31mins 11secs to finish eighth in a field of 339 runners.

Emmerson was followed by John Wrigley (32:58) in 20th place, Ian Warrington (33:21) in 25th and Chris Paxton (33:36) in 31st.

Katie Percival was first Radcliffe woman home in 38:30 at Sunday's race, which was the second event in this year's Central Lancs Grand Prix.

Fiona Lynch received a shield as vet-40 winner at the Red Rose Cross Country League presentation night at Horwich on Friday.

She was back running the next day in the 10.4-mile Stan Bradshaw Pendle Round Fell Race, clocking a fine 1:34:09 as first runner home for Radcliffe. Lynch was followed by Mauro Rotondi (1:42:09), Paul Swyers (1:43:33) and Lisa Carter (1:56:00).

Two of the five Radcliffe women taking part in the Trafford 10k earned new personal-best times. Sarah Turner (V45) beat her previous mark with a time of 47:13, while Kate Holden (V40) set a new best of 47:55, while Sheila Jones was third V60 in 48:59 and Susanne Andrew (V40) ran 55:46.

Peter McNulty (V60) took on an overnight mountain event in the Peak District when he was part of a team of four in the 42-mile High Peak Marathon. Starting from Edale, the route was on the challenging moors of Derbyshire, much of it on pathless peat bogs. It tested endurance and navigational skills, covering 5,397 feet of climbing.

Runners and walkers were competing and because two of the team were carrying injuries it was decided to walk the event, finishing in 16 hours.

McNulty is training for the 37-mile Old Counties Tops Fell Race in May, a classic Lakeland event.

Kirsten Cook was pleased with her run at the hilly Accrington 10k, clocking 58:48, on her way back to fitness after shoulder surgery.
