Bury FC says it would not allow the team's games to be moved out of the town after Glasgow Rangers’ new owner is reportedly looking into an astonishing plan to buy out the club.

According to reports in The Sun newspaper, the Scottish club is interested in taking up Bury’s fixtures in the forthcoming League One season and moving home matches to Ibrox – starting with the opener against Brentford on August 18.

But a statement released by the club today said: "Whilst investment into Bury Football Club is always welcome, any offer of investment will only be viewed at taking the club forward in its only one guise possible-based in the town of Bury, and as Bury Football Club.

"Bury FC is a proud historical club, and as such proudly represents the town, community, people, and above all supporters of Bury. The directors of Bury FC place the integrity and morality of the club, and football as a whole, way above and beyond any possible financial gain, and as such wish to reassure all Shakers fans of this fact."

Charles Green bought Rangers for £6million last week but they are in liquidation and could face starting next season in Scottish Division Three, if SPL clubs vote next month against their bid to be allowed back in next term.

The SPL fixture list currently has “Club 12” listed instead of Rangers until the other 11 clubs vote on July 4.

It is highly likely that the extraordinary claims are designed to put pressure on any move to expel the Glasgow side from the top tier, but it does tie into a long-held desire by some sections of the Old Firm to play in the English league.

It is not clear whether the amazing plan is allowed under Football League rules in England or Scotland, and there is no indication in the newspaper report as to why Green has chosen Bury as his preferred English club to buy out.

No mention has been made of any approach to the Bury board and there has been no suggestion of any Bury involvement in the plan.

What is sure is that Bury fans will strongly contest any move to take over their club and move it 200 miles, north of the border.

The immediate reaction from Shakers supporters on social networking sites and internet forums, after the story was posted on The Sun website early this morning, was one of shock, followed by indignation.
