WALSHAW and Wythenshawe shared the spoils in a Manchester Premier Division game played in difficult conditions.

Tino Blake forced a brave save from the home keeper, and Jon Stephenson blazed the follow up over the empty net as the visitors made the better start.

Stephenson made amends five minutes later with a headed finish to put Walshaw 1-0 up. Jamie Treanor had a shot deflected back off the bar, and also stung the keepers’ hand with a long range drive, as Walshaw looked to double their lead in a one sided first half hour.

As the freak weather of thunder and torrential rain hit, the hosts took advantage of some sloppy play to equalise with a far post header just before half time. The shot took a deflection off Lee Chapman, giving MacGuire no chance in the Walshaw goal.

In increasingly poor conditions, the second half saw the home side grab a foothold as the game became a scrappy affair. However, on 70 minutes, Antino Blake put Walshaw back in front – his long range effort taking a deflection and nestling in the bottom right-hand corner.

Wythenshawe levelled the score for a second time, taking advantage of a poor throw to hit a vicious swerving shot from 30 yards, which had Macguire beaten all ends up.

Walshaw travel to Rochdale Sacred Heart next Saturday in the LFA Shield quarter-final, kick off 1.30pm.
