Even good sides have off days, and this was certainly one of those as Tottington found it difficult to lift themselves against a hard-working Blacks side in the Lancashire Amateur League.

The home side’s play was flat from the start with too many promising moves breaking down due to unforced errors.

The visitors grew in confidence and took the lead on 25 minutes with a close range finish. They could have added to their advantage 15 minutes later but for a good stop from Totty’s keeper Martin Campbell from the Blacks spot-kick.

Totty’s Jon Maylon led by example and went close to putting his side back on terms with a strike from distance that rattled the bar two minutes before half time.

Tottington made their chances of salvaging something from the game even more difficult as they conceded soft goals on 55 and 80 minutes.

They did stage a mini fight-back in the closing stages as Dan Ellis scored a consolation goal with five minutes left.
