A FANTASTIC team effort saw Bury edge tantalizingly close to the league title and promotion in a tense Manchester League Division One encounter with chasing club Breightmet.

Pete Hickford saw a header saved before Lee Bruce watched a similar effort go just wide.

Babooka Njie had a penalty claim waved away after being hacked down in the area before Andy Kennedy had a goal disallowed for hitching a lift off a Breightmet defender.

Then on the half hour, totally against the run of play, Breightmet took a shock lead from the penalty spot.

Bury came out in determined mood in the second half and renewed their onslaught on the Breightmet goal, and the breakthrough came when Babooka smashed home from 18 yards out.

Bury tore into the Breightmet defence at every opportunity and minutes later were rewarded with a penalty which Bruce tucked away with a steely nerve.

And victory was sealed when Babooka slotted home with five minutes to go.

Bury can seal the title with a repeat performance against the same opposition at Cams Lane this weekend.
