ELTON Vale climbed to third in the Manchester League Division One thanks to a regulation home win over lowly Salford Victoria.
But the league’s second-bottom side made Elton work for it, holding out until the hour mark.
Gareth Gardiner finally broke the deadlock, latching on to a defence splitting pass from Miles Mattocks before slotting past advancing Salford keeper Craig Doran. The visitors were then finally dispatched when Matt Barnes finished a flowing move, hammering home a Mattocks’ cross after good work from Richard Crook and Lee Dickinson.
Elton’s are away to Beechfield (3pm) on Saturday, while the reserves travel to Prestwich Heys (2.30pm).
