There are brighter times ahead for Radcliffe Borough after the Stainton Park ground’s floodlights were improved.

The club, who escaped the upgrade two years ago, now have bulbs equivalent of being able to stage a league fixture.

Manager Kevin Glendon said: “To fall in line with ground grading we had to do the floodlights.

“We have ended up putting on 18 bulbs and fittings. We only kept five or six of the original ones so it’s cost us about £6,000.

“It’s not a cheap project but we had to do it. If you don’t pass the ground grading, then you can’t play.”

The project, carried out by Bury’s Guild Electrical Supplies, Ansell Lighting and DMB Electrics, was overseen by the club’s chairman Bernard Manning.

He said: “They are fantastic. The lights came on for the first time the other night and we are very pleased with them.

“Guild Electrical Supplies gave us a good deal so we are indebted to them. “It would have been a major problem if we didn’t have the lights.”
